Deputy Mayor Juanita Scott
Elected to the Edgewater Park Township Committee on November
3, 2020, Juanita A. Scott, an Edgewater Park resident since 1982, continues her
life of public service… now in her own town.
She is a Democratic County Committeewoman and has served on
the Arbor Green Condominium Association, Inc. as a Board Member &
Treasurer.
Her service career has been with the NJ Department of Human
Services, Division of Developmental Disabilities (DDD)… at the former Johnstone
Training & Research Center in Bordentown, then at North Princeton
Developmental Center, before going to New Lisbon Developmental Center, where she
retired.
At the start of her career she developed the Special
Olympics Unified Softball Team… new to the Special Olympics… and the team went
on to be State Champions. She also coached other Special Olympics sports,
including track & field, volleyball, and cross-country skiing and worked
with the Special Olympics Team in Piscataway.
“This coaching activity helped many of our DDD consumers,
building their physical and social confidence and abilities,” she said, and she
subsequently helped develop Individual Habilitative Programs for DDD consumers
and supervised employees implementing these programs.
Working on the Cultural Diversity, Non-Appropriated Funds,
and Harvest Moonlight Ball Committees, plus designing staff development
training through the HR office on the Employee Training Committee, Committeewoman
Scott learned teamwork on many levels. During Hurricane Irene, she was on
the team of managers that worked to provide the shelter & services for
evacuees.
For six years throughout the state, she worked in
Administration as a DDD investigator, helping to safeguard and improve
treatment of DDD consumers.
While at DHS-DDD, she served as vice president, president,
and member of the executive board of her local AFSCME union, as well as
recording secretary of AFSCME and CWA… always working to safeguard working people.
Now her goal on Township Committee is to use these skill
sets to serve residents and promote Edgewater Park’s ongoing endeavors so that
it remains “a wonderful small town with a big heart!”
