Mercantile Licensing
Edgewater Park Township Committee passed Ordinance No. 2019-4 on April 2, 2019, approving a method to identify and communicate with the Local Business Community by establishing a Mercantile License.
You may submit your Mercantile Application Form by:
- Mail to the Municipal Building
Attn: Mercantile License, 400 Delanco Road, Edgewater Park, NJ 08010
- Drop Box in front of the Municipal Building at 400 Delanco Road
Any business that is new, in the process of opening, or is re-opening and has not yet filled out the Mercantile License Application should do so any time during the year and return it to the Township Building.
Annual Deadline: Failure to fill out and return the application by December 31st of each year will result in a fine. Late applications must be postmarked by January 15.
Late Fee: Any applications received past postmark date of January 15 will require a late fee with their application for renewal of $25.
The primary use for this Mercantile License Program is to improve communications with the business community, especially in the event of emergencies. When severe weather events occur, Edgewater Park First Responders need to be able to contact business owners immediately. If a tree or vehicle crashes onto the business when it is closed and the owner or manager is not there, First Responders often need immediate information from someone in charge:
- Could anyone still be working or injured in the building?
- Is there anything flammable inside which could be in peril?
- Will the product inventory “spoil” if not rescued immediately, e.g., from a flood, leaky roof, or power outage?
- Is there interior wiring near the crash site that could spark a fire & destroy the building, nearby buildings, or hurt others?
An added benefit of this Mercantile License Program is receiving information and notifications from the Township about important (local, county, state, or federal) business loans, tax benefits, PPE supplies, or other programs and opportunities for small businesses.
